Is Ayurveda and ayurvedic medicine safe or not ?
Is ayurveda harmful?
You may be confused but not after reading this post. We have personally met a few ayurvedic doctors and asked these questions to them as we were curious too. We have completely summarised the answer in a few points and tried to make it easy for you…. Let's jump into it.
Q1. Are Ayurvedic medicines safe to use ?
Ans:- Absolutely yes. Ayurvedic medicines are absolutely safe ( considering they are made in proper hygienic conditions and with absolute proper precautions). Ayurvedic medicines can be used as normal medicine without any special requirements (Please refer to your Doctor's prescribed instructions properly.)
We also recommend ayurvedic supplements and proper nutrition diet with dosages and adequate lifestyle.
Q2. Are Ayurvedic Medicine harmful?
Ans:- This question has two ways for its answer and many different perspectives of various people around the globe:-
Ayurvedic medicines might not be considered harmful if they are being used/ consumed in a proper, personally prescribed way.
As like other forms of medicines ayurvedic medicine and treatments also precure your body in somewhat similar manner, but use a different approach to do it. It basically comprises to maintain a proper body balance level of toxins in your body using the most organic way to do it. But nowadays modern ayurveda has started to use some chemicals for making bases for its medicines.
Coming back to the topic,
Yes excess use of Any thing is harmful, same applies to Ayurvedic medicines.
Long term and overuse may create serious harm to your body. That is why it's always recommended to consult a doctor before actually using these medicines for yourself. Every individual's body has different requirements and based upon it doctors make decisions and prescribe the best possible efficient meds.
Q3. Can Ayurvedic medicine be consumed on a regular basis ?
Ans:- Yes ayurvedic medicine can be used on a regular basis but as already told, its usage should be performed in a prescribed and advised manner. If its under proper dosage and in control, you are good to go… However, if the medicine is of higher dosage additional precautions must be taken as it may be not beneficial. You should regularly ask your doctor/ physician about the dosage, if you are taking a higher dosage medicine. Because additional dosages may create some complexity in the long term usage.
Q4. Are Ayurvedic medicines better than Allopathic medicine ?
Answer:- This question has no proper answer. At some point ayurvedic medicine is better than Allopathy. Sometimes allopathy wins. However here are some points by which you can understand their differences:
1. Effectiveness: You see, in the case of effectiveness there are variations in the type of medicines and diseases. We observe that in case of viral fevers and diseases, the normal paracetamol and antibiotics win because of their superior effectiveness. Whereas sometimes for example if you get a physical wound for example you have a cut on your hand or at your knee, normal therapies like :turmeric paste etc. give a better result and relief.
However it can be concluded on anyone's side. It is a neck-and-neck race.
2.Pricing: India is a price centric market and here we perceive that Ayurveda is way behind in the case of the pricing in the market. Let's understand this by an example.Lets consider you are suffering from a headache. You will probably go to the pharmacy and get a crocin or saridon and you will take a pill and may rest or you may get back to your work, because the medicine will do its work and you will get relief.
This whole process took you,, let's say around 30 mins, and the medicine only cost you around a buck or something.
Whereas if you want to go with the ayurvedic way, these might not be the case.
You may require to make that “ginger tea” for yourself and then consume it.
This in return will take much longer time and also gingers are expensive.
So, with these basic examples we can make it out that Ayurveda requires much more time and is obviously costly because Ayurveda naturally uses organic materials to make its medicine.
Q5.Can we consider ayurvedic medicine instead of our regular medicines ?
Answer:- Ayurveda is one of the oldest medicinal sciences. We know that ayurvedic medicines are made mostly using natural or organic things. But eventually, ayurveda lost its pace of research and has become abundant. However, till today, it is found that most of them are still effective. If we reestablish the research works on the ayurveda, we can make it more enhanced and back to power again.
Coming back to the question…..
If you really want to know whether your normal regular medicine can be replaced by ayurveda or not, this can be checked by your health conditions. For health conditions like : Diabetes, Cholesterol, Hypertension, etc. there are some ways to get rid of your drug dosage prescribed and shift to these ayurvedic forms of medicine. It's always recommended to do a proper enquiry about what you are consuming and hence also consult an ayurvedic practitioner. But if your condition is too serious to judge (Type 2 diabetes, etc. ) it's always necessary to ensure it with an Ayurvedic doctor before doing any changes about your medicines.
